PROGRAMS - Pittsburgh/Fayette project area information

Pittsburgh/Allegheny County Healthy Start

Healthy Start chose Pittsburgh/Allegheny County to be one of the first 15 special project areas nationwide, due in large part to its disproportionately high infant mortality rate (IMR), particularly amongst low-income white and African-American women.

Healthy Start concentrates its efforts on the following six areas in Allegheny County:
North Side; Center City; East End/Wilkinsburg; South Side; the Western Communities and Duquesne/Braddock. Click Here for a complete listing of all communities served in each of the six regions. Please call 412-247-4009 for more information.

Fayette County Healthy Start

The Fayette County Healthy Start initiative extends Healthy Start’s coverage in southwestern Pennsylvania to an area where there was great need. Healthy Start now provides case management and care coordination services to approximately 500 women and children across the County.

Thanks to the considerable assistance of local, state and Federal representatives, targeted funding was secured to fully subsidize the Fayette County project. Additionally, a competitive grant application was accepted that made available considerable funding to fortify this project through 2009.

A full range of services is available across Fayette County in Uniontown, Connellsville, Brownsville and Masontown. Click here for a map of Healthy Start’s Fayette County project areas. For more information about Healthy Start Fayette County, please call 724-425-1799.
